About the event
"Your body is your temple" it is the foundation for a healthful, joyful life connected to yourself, to relationship, and to your spiritual essence. BREATHE! NOURISH! De-STRESS!
Over these 3 weeks we will Breathe, Rest, and learn to eat in ways that benefits our whole system. I will also teach you a highly effective medical qigong for releasing the sinuses!
In our classical chinese medicine theory we understand that we have 2 aspects to our basic energy: One is a treasure trove of essential energy, Jing, we're born with. Some have more and some less. The better we manage it, the longer we live. And then energy we can acquire from our food and drink for basic day to day functions.
These energy resources impact our capacity to mount a strong defensive capacity. Our mission is to preserve the Jing we were born with by rest, de-stressing and good living; AND then to augment the Qi we take in through breath and good nutrition, this is the postnatal QI that we wish to nurture.
The vitality of the body requires that we attend to daily practices:
- nutrition and avoiding that which detracts (highly processed foods, sugar, alcohol, etc)
- Breath
- Rest & sleep
- Reduced stress and fear
- Fitness
Daily practice is key: Sadly, there is no silver bullet...but there is a good recipe for planting a fruitful garden--and it takes time. I'm committed to helping you find ways to introduce practice into your life. We cannot just do a random exercise here or eat an occasional nutritious meal there and there and magically boost immunity and vitality. Largely, it is also a matter of not zapping our Qi through deleterious eating, stress and over-doing.
That is not to say we cannot also have occasional joyful moments of life, a nice glass of wine, a bit too rambunctious Christmas party, a big push to finish a work project, or an ambitious hike. It is about balance and conscious choice about alternatives from a place of understanding. Knowing now what I know, I would not have done 2 years of 200+K bike tandem rides when I was 50. This pushed me in to early osteoporosis. A nice day walk and a picnic is entirely more healthful in every way.
I look forward to you joining me on this Fall qigong series.
Cheers
Jan
